I am amazed at the amount of aircraft owners who think that the best person to sell their aircraft is the same person that literally stops making money once the plane goes away. Sure, there may be aircraft managers out there that can see past the current aircraft and to the replacement aircraft, but at the same time they’re still going to have to get retrained, add the new plane to their certificate, train pilots, etc. So it would seem that the best case scenario here is that the manager just finds himself too busy to truly dedicate the time it takes to SELL an aircraft between taking the calls, sending the spec sheets, taking good photos, preparing a maintenance report and follow up with the leads. They literally get paid to NOT go the extra mile!
In some cases, once we wake the owner up and have finally wrestled the listing away from the management company (who has been trying to sell the plane for 365+ days unsuccessfully) we still face the uphill battle that starts with not being able to get a CAMP report and ends with the plane “being out on a trip” not able to be shown to a prospective buyer.
Using an aircraft management company to manage your plane is a great way to make sure that it is taken care of properly, maintenance is above and beyond what the manual says and that the plane ready to fly when you are. To own one without this service makes little sense and from $1,500 to $3,000 per month we can recommend lots of good ones in your area; however when it’s time to sell, a responsible aircraft management company will recues themselves from the sale facing an obvious conflict of interest.
